Moving toward green development is not merely a development philosophy, but also a profound industrial transformation.
Located in Machong, Dongguan, the heartland of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Pearl River surges endlessly. Here stands COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Guangdong), a shipyard with a history of over 30 years. Once, roaring machinery, massive docks and shuttling vehicles defined its industrial landscape. Today, a quiet green revolution is taking root on this land.

It all started with an aging rooftop. From weather-beaten and sweltering to power-generating and daylight-transmitting, what changes has it undergone?
Upon entering the factory premises of COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Guangdong), the renovated rooftops present a refreshing new look, a stark contrast to their former state.
Aged and worn by wind and rain, the original rooftops suffered from water leakage, poor thermal insulation and high maintenance costs, becoming major obstacles to the company’s green development.
All has been transformed after the upgrade. Adopting LONGi CENTER INT BIPV solutions, the project seamlessly integrates photovoltaic power generation systems with building rooftops.
Now the brand-new rooftops serve not only as a shelter against wind and rain, but also as an energy hub that continuously generates clean electricity.
Capable of withstanding typhoons, eliminating water leakage and brightening workshops — what lies behind this remarkable green solution?
Stretching along the factory roads are neat rows of photovoltaic arrays shining brightly in the sun. More than ordinary distributed PV facilities, this project is a systematic initiative combining advanced technology, high safety and tangible benefits.
Data speaks for its strength The project has a total installed capacity of 6.46MW, equipped with 10,132 high-efficiency LGi7-72HTD-640M modules. It operates under the model of self-consumption with surplus power fed to the grid and connects to the factory power network via a 10kV switching station.
Technology underpins reliable performance Tailored for South China’s frequent typhoons and abundant rainfall, the BIPV system is engineered with superior wind resistance, waterproofing and fireproof performance. It fundamentally resolves the long-standing problem of rooftop water leakage in industrial buildings. With excellent anti-attenuation capability, the power station is guaranteed to operate efficiently and stably for 25 years.
Notably, the rooftop ventilators were optimized during the renovation. Natural daylight is greatly enhanced, brightening the once dim workshops. Employees now work in a more comfortable environment, with improved well-being and productivity.
Green development delivers both ecological and economic benefits, as fully demonstrated at COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Guangdong). Green transition is by no means a losing proposition.
In terms of economic returns, under the self-consumption model, the project generated a total of 1,055,900 kWh of electricity from January to February 2026, cutting electricity costs by approximately RMB 700,000. In the long run, its total power generation over 25 years is projected to reach 151,219,000 kWh. This substantially reduces the company’s operational costs and supplies clean power to the regional grid.
Environmentally, the project is expected to save 2,133 tons of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 5,792 tons annually, along with reduced emissions of sulfur dioxide and other harmful gases. These figures represent solid implementation of the national dual carbon goals.
As a major ship repair and building base in South China, the adoption of LONGi CENTER INT BIPV by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Guangdong) marks not only an optimization of energy structure, but also a vivid example of the green and low-carbon transformation of traditional manufacturing.
A recognized High-tech Enterprise since 2009, the company has embedded green development into its corporate DNA. In February 2026, it was awarded the title of National Green Factory for outstanding achievements in clean production, low-carbon energy use, efficient resource utilization, eco-friendly products and intensive land use.
The green transformation of COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Guangdong) has brought tangible benefits to the enterprise itself. It also creates a replicable and promotable Dongguan Model for heavy industrial enterprises across South China and the whole country in renovating existing factory buildings and utilizing clean energy.
