Against the backdrop of the dual carbon goals, how iron and steel enterprises can realize energy conservation, carbon reduction, cost cutting and efficiency improvement via direct access to green power, renewable energy consumption and industrial green microgrid construction has become a major industry focus. This conference aims to advance policy implementation, promote advanced technologies and facilitate experience sharing, so as to drive the high-quality green and low-carbon development of the iron and steel sector.

At the opening ceremony, Jiang Wei (Deputy Party Secretary, Vice President and Secretary-General of China Iron and Steel Association), Fang Qing (Supervisor General of China Energy Conservation Association and Chairman of its Metallurgical Energy Conservation Professional Committee), Xiao Bangguo (Party Secretary and President of China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute) and Liu Aisen (Chairman of CENTER INT) delivered speeches successively.

Jiang Wei stated that the whole industry should adapt to new trends and requirements and prioritize four key tasks: first, further advance energy and carbon efficiency improvement programs and shift from energy efficiency upgrading to coordinated management of energy and carbon; second, accelerate the deployment of green power to seize opportunities in the new energy sector; third, push forward electrification transformation to create core carriers for green power application; fourth, strengthen digital and intelligent empowerment and build a new energy system integrating source, grid, load and storage. Under the guidance of relevant national authorities, the industry shall take the "Services to Enterprises" initiative as a starting point to fully implement energy and carbon efficiency projects, achieve a win-win between green low-carbon transformation and steady growth, and contribute the strength of the iron and steel industry to building a beautiful China and a modern socialist country.

Fang Qing pointed out that as a major sector with high energy consumption and carbon emissions, the iron and steel industry is facing tremendous challenges in green and low-carbon transformation. Building safe, efficient and clean industrial green microgrids through direct green power connection, renewable energy utilization and energy storage regulation to achieve cost reduction, efficiency gains and green development has drawn wide attention across the industry. As China fully enforces dual control over carbon emissions, the iron and steel industry has entered a new crucial stage to carry out energy-saving and carbon-reduction renovations and raise the proportion of production capacity meeting high energy efficiency standards during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. In this context, exploring the integration of iron and steel manufacturing and new energy via industrial green microgrids is of great practical and strategic significance.

Xiao Bangguo noted that clear policy signals indicate iron and steel enterprises, as major power consumers and production players, must take the initiative to embrace profound changes in energy production and consumption. By developing new power systems to integrate and consume a high proportion of new energy, the power system can be transformed from a cost center into a value creator. At present, China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute is providing consulting services on new power system construction for multiple iron and steel enterprises. It designs customized clean, smart, flexible and market-responsive power systems based on coordinated optimization of source, grid, load and storage, helping enterprises optimize their energy mix and maximize economic benefits.

Liu Aisen introduced the development and business layout of CENTER INT. He said the company’s business covers four core segments: building metal envelope systems, ecological governance, Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and integrated PV-energy storage-charging solutions, forming a complete industrial system for green and low-carbon development. Going forward, CENTER INT will target key carbon reduction challenges in the iron and steel industry, upgrade core technologies and tailor low-carbon solutions for the sector. Upholding the philosophy of open cooperation and mutual benefit, the company will collaborate with all parties to develop customized green energy solutions for iron and steel enterprises, helping them cut costs and carbon emissions and boost the green, intelligent and high-quality transformation of the whole industry.

Subsequently, leading officials, academicians and industry experts held in-depth discussions on energy-saving and carbon-reduction paths, industrial green microgrid construction, and integrated application of distributed PV and factory buildings. They stressed that the high-energy-consuming iron and steel industry needs to accelerate green and low-carbon transformation. Popularizing innovative energy-saving technologies such as BIPV and adopting the PV plus smart energy model can help factories save energy, improve efficiency, realize energy self-sufficiency and reduce costs and carbon emissions, setting a benchmark for green development across industrial sectors.

Academician Jiang Yi from the Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered a keynote speech titled Carbon Emission Accounting for the Iron and Steel Industry. He mentioned that advancing the energy revolution toward carbon neutrality and building a major energy country is essential for safeguarding energy security, realizing modernization, cutting carbon emissions, addressing climate change and fulfilling international responsibilities. Carbon emission accounting serves as a key tool for total emission control. However, the existing accounting system still needs improvement to balance total volume control and effective incentives. It is necessary to clarify inter-industry responsibility boundaries, optimize accounting methods and promote coordinated carbon dual control throughout production and consumption chains.

Hao Bing, Vice President of CENTER INT, gave a special presentation on BIPV Solutions and Integrated PV-Storage-Charging-Transport Solutions for Short-distance Haulage in Mining Areas.
